Spiritual Care For Planet Earth
The subject of tending to the Earth is one that can be extremely painful at this time. Many of us find ourselves in a state of despair over what is happening to the planet and not knowing how to act. It is important to assert certain teachings to help the medicine person who wants to stay engaged despite the annihilation and collapse of lifesystems that is currently occurring on our planet. We can be activists and engage in all kinds of ecological solutions from a science-based perspective. We can work toward legislation on the political level to offer much-needed protections. All of these activities are critically important. In this class, we are engaging with the spiritual dimensions of this subject.
In this class we will:
- Delve into and deepen our personal relationship to the Earth
- Journey to the interiority or “soul space” of the planet to listen
- Learn about and Interact with the various membranes of the planet to offer support
- Offer nourishing and care to her precious core in a guided ritual

Membranes of Hope
The membrane is the bioenergetic container, boundary, barrier, skin, that protects what is inside from that which is outside. The membrane is permeable, with an intelligence and discernment to decide what gets in and what stays out. The membrane acts as a filter, shield and gatekeeper for what is within the membrane. All lifesystems have membranes from the simple cell to the multicellular, to the complex lifesystems we humans are embedded within. Lifesystems held within membranes are nested within other life systems and connected to other membranes as networks . Membranes exist at all these levels and interact communicate and remain in relationship to teach other and the whole.
Earth’s Membranes
We are held within countless containers of safety. The Earth, our mother, created a variety of systems to enclose us within layers of protection while remaining interactive with our local solar system. The atmosphere and magnetosphere are but two examples of systems created by the Earth that repel asteroids and other space debris, as well as harmful radiation, while allowing other beneficial matter and light in. Layer upon layer of membranes that are permeable, yet protective. How can we offer support to these life protecting systems?
